Why gap year guide exists
Gap Year Guide exists because the journey to medicine isn’t always linear, and it shouldn’t have to be.
Not everyone discovers this calling at an early age. Some find it later in life through hardship, curiosity, or career changes. Much of the traditional admissions guidance assumes you started planning early in college, leaving fewer resources for those who take a more nontraditional path.
Your path isn’t a disadvantage.
It’s your advantage…when you know how to use it.
Here you won’t find generic advice. You’ll get structured guidance tailored to where you are, who you are, and where you’re going.
So, What is Gap Year Guide?
Gap Year Guide is a coaching and strategy program built specifically for nontraditional pre-meds, applicants who didn’t follow the “straight to medical school” path and need structured guidance to build a competitive, authentic medical school application.
Who we support
Future physicians who discovered medicine later, took time after college, changed careers, or built meaningful experiences outside the classroom and now want a clear roadmap forward.
How IT started
Like many of the students I work with, I didn’t follow a straight path to medicine. I graduated from college in 2020, at the height of the pandemic, unsure which direction to take. I explored careers in pharmacology, psychology, nursing, and other healthcare fields, seeking the right fit. It wasn’t until years later, while shadowing a physician, that everything finally clicked.
That experience set everything in motion. I spent months researching the medical school admissions process, feeling overwhelmed by the steps needed to become a competitive applicant. Over time, I found my footing by enrolling in postbaccalaureate courses, gaining patient-facing experience, and carving out time to study for the MCAT. After years of preparation, I was accepted into multiple medical schools, a milestone that still feels surreal.
My path reminded me that the journey to medicine is rarely linear. I built Gap Year Guide to be the resource I wish I had: one that helps nontraditional students navigate uncertainty, find clarity, and build applications that reflect who they truly are.
